Amber Kampot Introduces Its Efforts To Go Even More Sustainable

Blog | Uncategorized

Amber Kampot continuously upholds efforts to implement sustainability principles in producing sustainable hotel products and services as well as its operational activities.

In doing so, The Company prioritizes guests satisfaction, employees, our communities, and the government. We aim to reduce any impact on our environment through strict corporate rules. At the same time, we encourage the involvement and commitment of all our staff to implement sustainability.

Waste Segregation

The resort has separated different types of waste so that it can be recycled or disposed of more effectively. By doing so, hotel reduces the amount of waste going to landfills and recycle more materials. There are many types of waste, and each type should be segregated into its bin.

The most common types of waste are general, recyclable, and hazardous. General waste is any waste that cannot be recycled. It includes food waste, packaging, and other household items. Recyclable waste includes paper, plastic, metal, and glass. Hazardous waste includes chemicals, batteries, and electronic waste. Waste segregation is essential because it helps to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill. It also makes recycling more effective, as different materials can be recycled more easily when separated.

Waste Reduction

Reducing waste in the hotel industry can be as simple as making a choice. For example, we use a ceramic dispenser for our bathroom amenities and provide a refilled water bottle instead of purchasing plastic drinking water. It is a manageable move towards waste management.

By reducing waste, we participate in conserving space in our landfills and reduce the need to build more landfills which take up valuable space and are a source of air and water pollution. Second, by reducing our waste, we are also conserving our resources. Resources like aluminium, petroleum and trees are all used to make new materials such as cans, plastic bags and paper packaging. Lastly, reducing waste means using less energy to recycle materials instead of creating new ones.

The manufacturing of consumer goods is a process that consumes a lot of energy, so by limiting the number of new resources required, a large amount of energy can be saved.

Waste Recycle

At Amber Kampot, we believe nothing can not be recycled. The leftover food in the resort is donated to the local farmers so it is beneficial to the local economy and our waste management.

This act simply gives inspiring acts to other resorts in Kampot, so Tourism is more sustainable than ever. The activity is led proactively by our housekeeping leader Mr. Kap Chenda who continuously ensures the implementation is in place.

Active Policy and Education

Amber Kampot has given some local training to the nearby school, and shared some importance of cleanliness and recycling.. Solid Waste Management is a multifaceted problem comprising political, socioeconomic, institutional, and environmental aspects. Due to exponential urban growth, it has become one of the most significant issues faced by urban spaces in Cambodia. The gap in environmental knowledge among the youth and the old in Cambodia contributes to ecological issues or waste management problems, resulting in unsustainable development with significant consequences.

As such, Amber Kampot advocates for the communities by raising awareness, launching best practices and, more importantly, educating the young generation.
